What Do You Think Of When I Say The Name Dolly Parton?
Dolly Parton Wigs? Dolly Parton Boobs? Dolly Parton Business Woman?
I'm betting most picked the second one.
I'm going to take a chance on this by sounding a little "hillybillyish" in my admiration of a star better known for the size of her boobs (can I say "Boobs?") than any other talent she possesses. I saw Dolly Parton in concert when I was in my late twenties. She came to the Salem Oregon State fair, and my friend, Sandi, had tickets. I wasn't that excited to go at the time until I actually got there and heard Dolly perform.
No wonder people think of Dolly Parton boobs when they see her picture. What you don't see in pictures that you see on stage and in person is the personality and trained talent that only a lifetime of hard work and determination could produce.
She started out her show with a bold, strutting and proud walk onto the stage and started talking about what a great manager she had, except that, "on some days, though, I could take him, put an apple on his head, and aim at it with a bow and an arrow," she laughed out loud then and a wide grin lit up her face.
She laughed a lot and entertained us so well that I didn't want to see the show end. Hearing such a small-framed woman (I think she's under five feet tall - tiny little gal), talk like that in a bold way that made us all laugh, I must say, I became a fan right then and there.

My folks (of course-especially my dad) , loved her music. I had heard enough country songs growing up that I vowed that once I moved into my own place I would never listen to one again. That phase lasted about ten years.
Not only is Dolly Parton a talented and popular musician, singer and songwriter, but she is a beloved philanthropist, talented actress, and savvy businesswoman who also dedicates herself to the advocacy of children's education through her imagination library.
She began her career in 1959 and hasn't slowed down yet. Never mind how old she is - around there works just fine, because Dolly Parton is just one of those kinds of performers who has ingratiated herself to young and old audiences alike around the globe and will live to be forever young.

One of the things I remain impressed by is her business knowledge. In 1998, she was ranked by Nashville Business as the wealthiest country-music star. For those of you who think that money doesn't buy happiness, you are shopping in the wrong store (kidding). Dolly Parton is truly a fairy tale story of rags to riches.
Dolly Parton holds strong family and spiritual values and she is married to her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, since 1966. She speaks of him often on stage, but he rarely goes to her shows and is cited as only having been to one. They keep their private life . . . Private. And I applaud that in this day and age.

That's not all. Dolly Parton has a film and television production company that has not only produced academy award winners, but TV series, feature films, interviews, and several other shows.
Some of you may recognize her more popular songs, like: Jolene, Little Sparrow, Joshua, Me and Little Andy, Nine to Five, Eagle When She Flies, and my personal favorite-Hard Candy Christmas., plus many others.
But did you know that she also plays the guitar, banjo, autoharp, piano, drums, fiddle, Appalachian dulcimer, harmonica and the pennywhistle?
And did you know that her more celebrated acts include pairings with Kenny Rogers, Porter Wagner, Emmylou Harris, Shania Twain, Billy Ray Cyrus, Willie Nelson and many more?
It doesn't stop there. Dolly Parton is a former Hawaii restaurant owner, and has a line of wigs by Revlon since the 1990's. Her best selling style was named, " Dolly's Own," but has been renamed since it originally came out. It took me years to realize that Dolly had a dressing room full of Dolly Parton wigs. I just admired her for her quick costume changes and styles - which included her hair - that seemed to take only seconds. I even got one of her wigs for a Dolly Parton costume I put together and had a lot of fun!
I know that De Greek is probably frantically searching for an appropriate bridge about right now!

The wigs she has worn over the years have been a great attribute and I can imagine many women having a great experience doing the same thing and taking on a shot of courage to boot! A wonderful tribute to a talented and charming lady. Like Dick Clark, Dolly Parton is ageless. She is one of my favorite country entertainers ever. My older sister took me to see Dolly Parton perform live once. I was young and didn't yet appreciate country music a lot, but now I am glad I got the chance to see her perform.

Beautiful Hub - I like Dolly Parton. She has a certain warmth about her. It radiates from the inside and I think she is a nice, genuine person. I liked here duet with Kenny Rogers and enjoyed her in Steel Magnolia's.

LOL - Hi zzron! When I saw her on stage performing live, I couldn't believe how tiny she is! But what impressed me the most was her quick wit and smile that lit up the stage. honestly, she so outshines her physical attributes that when you see her in person, you don't truly see anything else - Dolly has "Triple F" personality! It is her actual quote that you are using here - “I have got little feet because nothing grows in the shade” - Dolly Parton.
She is also quoted as saying, “I hope people realise that there is a brain underneath the hair and a heart underneath the boobs.” - Dolly Parton
Yeah, I believe I heard her tell that joke somewhere before. I'm a boob man myself and I thought it was pretty cool that she can joke around like that about herself and have a sense of humor.
It is cool! I must agree, but she is also a savvy business woman and she knows that for her to do anything less than poke fun at herself is just to invite critics to do it for her. BTW - I thought you were all "boob men." Sorry DeGreek - Not trying to steal your thunder!
